Proof You Can Have a Puppy and a Pretty Home

I was on the hunt for a dog crate that looked more like furniture — something spacious enough for our growing puppy (Harley) and thoughtfully designed with built-in storage. This decorative, cabinetry-style dog crate checks every box. It blends seamlessly into our living room without screaming “dog kennel.” The crisp white finish paired with dark wood accents gives it a classic look, while the solid top doubles as functional surface space for styling décor or everyday use.

Pros: The drawers are the perfect spot to store collars (because yes, Harley has one for every holiday and season) and other supplies. Everything stays organized but easy to grab. The crate also features a built-in outlet, which is great for plugging in décor, and it even includes under-lighting with a variety of color options for a fun, cozy glow.

Cons: Harley recently discovered she can push the drawers open with her nose. Apparently boxer curiosity + determination = surprise drawer access. I’m working on a solution (child locks may be in our future), but honestly I can’t blame the cabinetry for my dog’s mischievous behavior.

I couldn’t leave it completely as-is, so I swapped in new knobs to give the crate a more feminine, elevated touch. Such a simple update, yet it instantly made the piece feel custom and perfectly cohesive with the rest of our home. It’s amazing how a small hardware change can transform the look and feel of a space.

Lastly, if you’re trying to keep a curious puppy out of certain areas, I highly recommend investing in a good gate. This one has been a lifesaver for keeping Harley safe and protecting a few of our belongings along the way. It’s very easy to install and comes in a variety of sizes to fit different doorways.
